Approximately 1,500 runners, walkers and family members will gather Saturday, Oct. 23, for a morning of fitness and fun, to make a tremendous difference in the lives of area youth.
Presented by St. John Properties, Arbors at Baltimore Crossroads, and the Baltimore County Police Department, the 3rd Annual Baltimore Crossroads @95 5K Cross-Country Challenge will benefit the Baltimore County Police Athletic League (PAL) and Maryland Freestate ChalleNGe Academy.
Rain or shine, the event will take place at Baltimore Crossroads @95: a 1,000-acre business community located off I-95 and Md. Rte. 43, between White Marsh and the Middle River waterfront.
Open to people of all ages and skill levels, the event will include both a 5K run on a unique combination of road, open terrain, and hiking trail around the park, and a one-mile fun walk/run on paved areas within the park. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and the races start at 9:30.
Over $1,700 in cash prizes will be presented to the top three male and female adult finishers in the 5K run, while savings bonds will go to the highest placing youth contestants (under age 13) in the 5K run.
Adding to the day's excitement, the Maryland Air National Guard will bring a Hummer, and the Baltimore County Police Department will bring McGruff the Crime Dog, the Motorcycle Team, Helicopter-Aviation Team, a police explorer, and an armored personnel carrier.
The Maryland State Department of Education has arranged for six Baltimore County middle and high schools (Eastern Technical High School, Parkville High School, Perry Hall High School, Perry Hall Middle School, and Pine Grove Middle School) to participate in the event as a way to provide a "learning experience" for the students, and to promote good health and fitness.
Those wanting to pre-register in person and/or pick up their race packets (shirts, goodie bags, bib numbers, and timers) in advance, can visit Baltimore Crossroads @ 95 (11620 Crossroads Circle, Building D), Oct. 21, from 12:30 to 6:00 p.m.
In-person registration on race day will begin at 8:00 a.m.
